Random Thoughts in Josh's head...
- Good weekend at Western Reserve. One thing we have learned from is the Disney Experience, which the idea is that in the same movie you can laugh to tears and be moved to tears. We don't engineer that out of manipulation here- we think that's wrong- but at the same time, I think if we're authentic it usually happens naturally. All in about an hour fifteen, times we're crackin' up, times we're moved to pray and respond, challenged by the Word. I'm so blessed to be here. We're just being ourselves.
- Pre-Jam- Working for the Weekend, Loverboy- awesome. My boys tore it up.
- New song, We Unite. I thought it went really well- I thought it represents Western Reserve really well. It's who we are.
- I love sitting on a faux leather couch w/recliner in the green room, listening to Jason speak, watching on TV- we're really blessed.
- Loved what Brian did guitar-wise on Savior King. Really good stuff.
- Heard comments this weekend about people loving Jason Koeppe (preppie-koeppe)'s presence on stage. Adds a lot, just being here. His presence points people to Jesus. That's high praise.
- Looking forward to Jason getting a breather this week with Caleb, going snowmobiling. Cool. My boy works really hard, and I've been watching him get after it the last several weeks- deserves a break.
- Good conversation with Josh Callahan. Young stud. God's going to use him big-time.
- Welcomed new members of the worship family, Jen Jones as vocalist and Ron Bragg as audio engineer. Talented, genuine, humble people- I'm pumped you guys are here. Welcome to the family.
- I'm really excited about the discipleship stuff we're planning. Michael Toth and I have been having brainstorming meetings- iron sharpens iron. I might have some background in this area, but having smart people around you to sharpen your thinking always helps. Having fun with this.
- Thinking a lot about the AV stuff for the new building. It's a blast... but there's SO much work with this. Thankfully, I've got really good people around me, and enjoying relationship with our company, Summit Integrated. Also emailed with Cedar Creek guys this week.
- This week I get to be a part of a monthly Skype session with Jason Smithers, Creative Arts Pastor at Cedar Creek and 5 other Worship Pastors, talking about what we're learning and sharpening each other. Looking forward to deepening this relationship. I'm honored to be a part of it.
- Had fun grabbing Mexican with George and MaryBeth Burdette last night. George and I share the same weakness for good mexican food.
- I like blogging. I obviously write a lot; I just really enjoy it. Doesn't take me long. I saw Jon Herron use it really effectively, inspired me. I'm having lunch with him Tuesday this week- looking forward to it.
- Really excited about Matt Simon joining staff. Stud. Western Reserve will be better because of him. He's making a sacrifice, living out the call we talk about here. Matt, God sees it- He WILL bless you. Way to respond, brother. Matt will be taking over for me writing our devotionals, and working on assimilation and volunteering. Access at Western Reserve should improve greatly because of him.
- Really excited about Bry Birmingham joining staff as well. So sweet, so competent, so giving. She'll be running our First Impressions- she'll take things to the next level. I love working with someone you can always count on.
- The idea about having amps on stage, muting internal speakers and running extension cabs in isolation in sound panels = brilliant. Expensive, but brilliant. I have control of my tone back! (Without tearing in to the sound panel fort in the dark)
- LOVE my Duesenberg. And my Hummingbird. As soon as my Jackson gets here (should be anytime now) I'll be set. I chose purple for the Jackson Amp- reminds me of my hunny. So now I have a Vox, a surf green Dr. Z cab, an Orange cab, a purple Jackson, a blue sparkle Duesenberg, a sunburst Gibson Hummingbird... I like to be colorful. What can I say?
- For all the side things, which are fun- it's all about Jesus. Not just cliche, but really is. I read this the band today, after reading it in my morning reading/prayer:
Romans 5: 5: For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with love." You are SO loved.
