Random thoughts from the weekend-
- "That's not a man's doughnut." - George, looking at my plain doughnut breakfast.
- Seeing about a quart of water falling from the ceiling right to where Marty would be 20 minutes later before services (out of an old junction box, at that). Oh man. 7 more weeks.
- Love hearing Marty's heart for young people come out. You can just tell.
- My Generation, by the Who- 1:30 of fun introducing Marty. Having fun in church. Taking our mission seriously, not taking ourselves too seriously.
- "Christian Stock Pictures" - I thought a few of them were real pictures of people in our church before I realized they were staged- I won't tell you who...
- Marty helping parents trust God's sovereignty in their child's life- powerful.
- the "mission impossible" themed video announcements, showing building pictures- funny
- "inviting people into a story" that is always about redemption, regardless of where they are at- hmm. always about redemption.
- "I often brag about failing 8th grade" because God redeemed me- Marty
- "I enjoy middle-school ministry because I have twice as many memories" - Marty
- "Most of the youth leaders working with your kids have tattoos." - Marty
- the dancing that went on in the green room throughout the day at random spots by brian and grams. Boy, I wish I had video for that- hilarious, and mildly inappropriate...
- my message to the band before church- the lyrics in the song, "Living for Your Glory" - "what good is it to make a sweet sound but remain proud?" - Galatians 1:10- living to please God, not man- don't go out looking to establish yourself, or show off your talents- have only ambition for His Kingdom
- Grams singing the maranatha-type song "love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength" every time Marty referred to it
- investing in our kids is a "community project" - Marty
- leading music having just taken Vicodin on Saturday. Was trying to go without, was feeling bad before so I took it. A little light-headed during first set, I was good for 2nd. Adventure.
- I really appreciate peoples care for me, asking how I'm feeling and checking in on me.
- This week the band took turns bringing me and my family a meal each night- really cool. Honestly, I got a big kick out of it- I really felt loved. I felt like I was part of a "worship family" like we talk about. Cool being loved on.
- Great having JeRod back- just brings a presence on stage. Fun playing with him-
- "God's interested in using broken people." - Marty
- "God has leveraged our dysfunction into something He wanted to do." - Marty
- Michelle sending Dave a text pic of a ton of bacon, as she's home with sick Clover. Jealous. (of the bacon breakfast)
- I have an absolute blast playing with these fellas. So much fun.
- I get a kick out of seeing people moving, dancing around, rocking out during first set of music. Just fun and laid back. When your having fun praising God without posture- it's just fun. I think God likes that.
- We prayed for the Cambodia team who's leaving Tuesday. God bless, come back safely. Bless our kids.
- We want to be the church that has fun. You do that by being yourself- being fun loving, and when it's time to do business, you can focus and let God work.
- God to Marty: "In the middle of Cora's pain, I'm the only One who can love her unconditionally... besides Marty, with all your issues, its better for her to trust me than to trust you." Wise words for us all.
- JeRod has headphones in- pretty sure he just started humming Beyonce, Single Ladies
- "The Big Ask" this weekend- asking for prayer, volunteering, and we took an offering today- with a video segment from Pastor Jason. Western Reserve just steps up, time after time. What we're trying to do on Easter Weekend costs $25K. The Egg Drop is a big part, for example.
- hearing people sing and watching them connect during Mighty to Save- one of the best things ever. I'm so thankful.
